Quiet Confidence, Serious Strength: Charley’s Journey at Function Fitness

When Charley first joined Function Fitness in 2021, she didn’t arrive bursting with confidence or shouting about her goals. She arrived nervous about what she could do, but willing to give it a go. And that one decision changed everything.

“I fell in love with the weights and cardio being mixed because it was like I wasn’t even doing any cardio.”

What started as a slightly scary first session quickly became something she genuinely enjoyed. Training stopped feeling like something she had to do and started feeling like something she wanted to do. That is where the real change began.

Learning to Trust the Process

Charley’s original goal was weight loss, and she’s refreshingly honest about the journey.

“I lose it then gain it, lose it and gain it, but I think I’ve finally found a routine to achieve my goal.”

Instead of giving up when progress felt slow, Charley kept showing up. Session after session she built not just strength, but belief in herself. Over time her focus shifted from just the scales to what her body could actually do.

With a few technique tweaks and a lot of effort, she began hitting goals she never thought she would even aim for.

“They have helped me achieve goals I never thought I would set myself, like hitting new PBs just by adjusting my technique.”

Stepping Away and Coming Home

In 2023, Charley hit a moment of uncertainty. Unsure what direction her training should take, she stepped away and returned to powerlifting for a while.

But sometimes stepping back makes things clearer.

“I realised that Function Fitness is definitely my home.”

Coming back wasn’t just about returning to training. It was about coming back stronger, sharper, and more confident in what she wanted from her fitness journey.

Strength You Might Not Expect

Charley may not shout about her achievements, but they are quietly incredible.

Recently, she has:
• Power cleaned 70kg and nearly jerked it
• Deadlifted an impressive 135kg
• Built consistency and confidence in her training
• Stepped up as a team captain for this year’s Games

Not bad for someone who started out just trying to figure out what she could actually do.

And while the numbers are impressive, what really keeps her coming back is the people around her.

“Mostly, it’s the great community of people I have around me.”

Looking Forward

Charley’s goals now are about balance. She wants to continue working towards weight loss while maintaining her strength, and most importantly she wants to keep pushing herself to new PBs.

She proves that progress does not have to be loud to be powerful. Sometimes it looks like quietly showing up, doing the work, and surprising yourself.

Why Charley Recommends Function Fitness

For Charley, Function Fitness isn’t just somewhere to train. It’s somewhere she has grown stronger, more confident, and more capable than she ever expected.

“Definitely do it. You will fall in love with it. It gets hard sometimes, but it just makes you push harder to do better next time.”

She loves the way training challenges her, helps her unlock new PBs, and surrounds her with people who genuinely support each other. It has become more than workouts. It is somewhere she feels motivated, encouraged, and completely at home.

Why We’re Celebrating Charley

Charley is one of those members who leads without trying to. She shows up, works hard, supports others, and keeps pushing herself forward even when things feel tough.

Charley, your strength isn’t just what’s on the bar. It is in your consistency, your courage, and your quiet confidence. We are so proud of how far you have come and cannot wait to see what you achieve next. 🧡
