From Fear to Fierce – Abi’s Journey at Function Fitness

Walking into a gym for the first time can be intimidating. Walking in with no previous experience, juggling life with young children, and taking a leap for yourself? That’s brave.

“I felt liberated and scared at the same time.”

Joining Function Fitness in August 2025 was a big step. She had never exercised seriously, never prioritised herself physically, and life was already full-on. But something told her to give it a go. And we are so glad she did.

Finding Her Why

At the start, the goal sounded simple: get fitter and lose weight. But it quickly evolved into something more meaningful.

“Now I want to be a strong mum for my girls.”

Not just stronger in the gym. Strong enough to keep up with busy days, tired evenings, and everything motherhood throws at her. Strong in her body and confidence. Strong enough to show her girls what self-care and commitment look like.

Learning Discipline in Real Life

The workouts themselves haven’t been the hardest part. Life has.

“I wouldn’t say the gym is the hard part. Teaching myself discipline while living life with young children is the challenge.”

And yet, she keeps showing up. Prioritising herself. Proving that consistency and dedication pay off even when it would be easier not to.

That is where the real progress happens.

Wins That Inspire

  • Went up 10 in-body points in just 12 weeks — an amazing achievement for the very first review.
  • Progress on strength and fitness, showing that goals can be set and smashed.
  • Staying consistent while balancing life with young children — no small feat.

These moments are reminders that real progress comes from perseverance, focus, and heart.

Showing Up and Shining

Future goals are simple but mighty:

  • Feel confident in her own body
  • Get stronger every week
  • Keep building the habits that make her feel good inside and out

She’s focused on showing up for herself while balancing life with her girls, proving that small, consistent steps really do lead to big changes.

Why Function Fitness Feels Like Home

She was on the fence before joining but quickly realised the difference is the people.

“Jump off and commit for 6 weeks and I promise you’ll feel like a different person.”

The gym is more than workouts. It’s community, support, and a safe space to grow.

“Every single person, no matter your size, shape, age, or ability, is so warmly welcomed. And being primarily a women’s gym, you feel safe and respected.”

Even in just a few months, she’s already left her mark:
