From New Mum to 100kg Deadlifts: Nicole’s Journey at Function Fitness

When Nicole joined Function Fitness, she was eager to get back into exercise but felt a little nervous. "I finished my Fundamentals in December and was so excited to get back into any form of exercise. I was nervous to start with, as I'd mainly done running prior to joining the gym." Like many new members, she wasn’t sure what to expect, but she knew she wanted to improve her fitness and running—and she was ready to put in the work.

From Nervous Beginner to Lifting Heavy

Nicole’s journey hasn’t just been about getting back into shape; it’s been about regaining confidence in her body and what it can do. Having been unable to exercise during pregnancy, she had to ease herself back into training. "I really struggled to get used to doing an appropriate amount of exercise, as I wanted to be able to do everything straight away." But through patience, persistence, and the support of the Function Fitness team, she found her rhythm.

The benefits have extended far beyond the gym. Everyday life has become easier—carrying her toddler, for example, is no longer a struggle. More than that, she’s seeing massive progress in her running, with goals that once seemed distant now feeling within reach.

Hitting New Milestones

Nicole has proven time and again that she is capable of incredible things. "Levelling up in my assessments is definitely a shining moment, but achieving a 100kg deadlift has been my highlight (so far!) as it is something I'd not done before." Strength training has not only improved her power but also her endurance—she recently shaved seven minutes off her 10km time, an achievement that speaks to the well-rounded training she’s embraced at Function Fitness.

What’s Next?

Nicole’s journey is only just beginning. With a half marathon on the horizon, she has her sights set on even bigger challenges. "I've got a half marathon later on in the year, with the hopes of doing a HYROX next year. I also eventually want to complete an ultra marathon." From someone who once primarily ran to now lifting heavy and excelling across multiple disciplines, Nicole embodies the essence of progress and perseverance.
