Ceri’s journey at Function Fitness is a special one. Not just because she’s my wonderful wife, but because she’s lived through almost every stage of fitness that we help people with - from casual gym-goer to weightlifting enthusiast, through pregnancy and postnatal recovery and now training for a half Ironman. Watching her evolve over the years has been nothing short of inspiring, and I wanted to share her story.
When Ceri first joined Function Fitness, fitness was more of a hobby than a commitment. Like many of us, she had a “burn it off” mentality - overindulge at the weekend, then try to make up for it in the gym.
As Function Fitness evolved into a more results-driven, accountability-focused gym, Ceri’s mindset shifted too. She fell in love with strength training, trading HIIT sessions for barbell work and focusing on long-term functional fitness rather than quick-fix results.
Now, her goal isn’t just about aesthetics - it’s about capability.
That’s what true fitness is about—building a body that works for life.
If anything tested Ceri’s commitment to fitness, it was motherhood.
Rather than punishing her body post-pregnancy, Ceri has gained a newfound respect for it.
One of her proudest moments? Winning gold at this year’s Intra-House Games—something she’s competed in at every stage of her fitness journey, including while pregnant and postpartum.
At the start of this year, we both took a leap and signed up for a half Ironman. Neither of us are runners, swimmers, or cyclists, but we were inspired by Ceri’s sister and figured, why not?
There is no doubt in her mind that without the mindset, strength, mobility, and fitness she’s gained from Function Fitness, this challenge wouldn’t be possible. “I’m actually excited for our race in October!”
Ceri has been the busy professional, the exhausted teacher, the pregnant woman, the sleep-deprived new mum, and now the person with big, ambitious goals. And through every stage, Function Fitness has supported her in the way she needed most.
If you’re on the fence about joining, ask yourself this: Do you want a gym that grows with you? That supports you through every life stage, rather than just getting you ‘in shape’ for summer? That builds you up with a community that makes it easy to show up?
