What To Do When You're Stuck: Breaking Through A Nutrition Plateau

You’re tracking your food, hitting your steps, eating your protein, trying your best—and still… nothing’s happening.

Your weight hasn’t moved.

Your clothes feel the same.

The momentum you had at the start? Gone.

Hello, plateau.

It's frustrating and it can feel like a sign that you’ve failed or that your body is working against you—but it’s not.

Plateaus are part of the process.

They don’t mean your efforts aren’t working. They just mean your body’s adapted. And now it’s time to look under the hood and find what’s missing.

Here's what might be going on:

1. Your tracking isn’t as accurate as it used to be
This one’s common. you start off weighing and logging everything, but over time, eyeballing becomes more frequent.

Little extras sneak in—bites, licks, sips. No judgment—it’s just life.

But when your goal is fat loss, these small gaps can matter. A quick refresh on your food tracking might be all you need.

2. Your body needs a new challenge

When your body gets used to your current habits, the results slow down. That doesn’t mean you need to overhaul everything—but it might mean adjusting your portion sizes, protein intake, or meal timing.

Or, if you’ve been in a calorie deficit for a while, it might be time to bring things back to maintenance for a bit so your body can reset.

3. Stress, sleep, and life load
You could be ticking every box on your food plan, but if you’re stressed out, sleeping badly, or running on empty, your body won’t respond the same way.
This is the bit people often overlook. But if your nervous system is under pressure, your body’s not going to prioritise fat loss.

4. You’re doing too much, too fast
Sometimes the problem isn’t that you’re not doing enough—it’s that you’re trying to do everything perfectly all the time.
That kind of intensity isn’t sustainable, and when it leads to burnout or all-or-nothing swings, it stalls progress. More isn’t always better. Consistency is.

So, what do you do?

You don’t throw it all out and start over.
You zoom out. you look at the whole picture. and you tweak.
Just like your body adapted to get you to this point, you can help it adapt again to keep moving forward.

And this is where coaching makes a difference.

Because sometimes, when you're stuck, you're too close to it.
You need another set of eyes—someone to spot the patterns, shift the strategy, and help you figure out the piece that’s missing.

Plateaus aren’t the end. They're just a pause.

And with the right support, you’ll move past it. Every time.
