Sarah has a way of lighting up the room without even trying. Always smiling, determined, and quietly focused, she lifts the energy of everyone around her. Whether she’s smashing a lift, learning a new skill, or cheering on her classmates, Sarah’s dedication and positivity make her someone we’re proud to have in the gym.
Sarah joined Function Fitness in October 2022, after moving to Torrington from Surrey earlier that year. Before the move, she had been keeping up with aerial hoop classes, and after moving she continued with running, but she missed the structure and community of group sessions and wanted something to help her switch off and relieve stress.
“I was missing aerial hoop and being active. I’d been running since moving, but I really needed something physical to help with stress.”
She admits she had her doubts at first.
“I’d never done anything like this before and thought I might be joining a cult, but the class times and location worked, so I thought I’d give it a go.”
Thankfully, she loved it.
When Sarah first started, her goals were simple: relieve stress, support her bone health, and feel stronger. Life was busy, and for a while, she went through the motions without really thinking about goals.
By the summer of 2025, she realised she’d lost some of her spark. She wasn’t enjoying her food, her energy was low, and her training had become a routine rather than something she loved.
That’s when she paused, reflected, and made some changes:
And the results speak for themselves. Her power clean went from a 42.5kg one-rep max in 2023 to a 60kg three-rep max by December 2025.
Sarah’s journey has been full of highlights:
Up next?
A chin-up
Then a pull-up
Two solid doubleunders in a row
Two solid toes to bar (she’s recently done this and we’re super pleased for her!)
And she’s well on her way.
Sarah puts it best herself.
“It’s not a cult, but it is addictive. The atmosphere, the people, and the feeling after the workouts make it worth it.”
For her, the gym isn’t just about getting stronger. It’s about being part of a community that supports, encourages, and lifts each other up, and that’s exactly what she brings to every class.
Sarah is the perfect example of what makes Function Fitness special. She’s dedicated, consistent, and always brings her energy and positivity. She sets goals, works hard, celebrates wins, and keeps going even when things are tough.
From burnout to brilliance, Sarah’s journey reminds us that progress isn’t always about numbers or big results. It’s about showing up, having fun, supporting each other, and finding joy in the process.
We’re so proud to celebrate Sarah and all that she’s achieved.
